The disposition of the American Quarter Horse has made it the most popular horse breed. This type
of horse is very versatile and can be seen working cattle, racing, and showing. The American Quarter Horse breed was
created when early colonists began crossing British horses with a breed called the Chickasaw. Chickasaw horses were originally
Spanish horses which were adopted by the Chickasaw Indians. When the early colonists raced these horses against Thoroughbred
horses, they found that this new breed was the fastest at a quarter of a mile. This amazingly quiet but useful horse
became the American Quarter Horse.
